1000 Item Challenge Day 53

Ugh, sorry for the disappearance. This is my last, biggest week of training before starting taper for Ironman, so it's been crazy around here. (And when I HAVE had a free moment, I've used it to REST rather than scour the house for unnecessary items.)

Anyway, going to be one last huge weekend of training so not sure if I'll be able to post, but did (after MUCH looking around) find another ten items.

  • Paperwork
  • T-shirt
  • Vinyl bag
  • 2 Screws
  • 2 Photos
  • Running shorts
  • Bath bomb (Not pictured since I used it)
  • Newspaper clipping - One of those cases where it had the wrong "home." It's a newspaper photo of my cousin sitting on my uncle's shoulders while watching the Memorial Day parade when she was very young. She flipped when I posted it and I'm mailing it to her, where it will be cherished. LOVE!

Week One Summary

Well, this week was just crazy at work, so didn't get as hardcore as I hoped, however I really decluttered the linen closet (we had WAAAAAAY too many sheets and towels for two people!) and started going through memorabilia.  The linen closet looks a lot better but otherwise it's hard to see a difference despite everything I decluttered. I can't wait until Spring when I can put out the large items I want to give away for free! (I'm just going to put them in the yard, they should get scooped up quickly.) (And yes, although linens don't count towards the Two Bags project, it was some of the last of the easy, low-hanging fruit. I've been minimizing for about two years now so it gets tougher and tougher.) Insights this week: I'm still afraid to tackle makeup or clothes despite the fact that I wear makeup maybe once a month and the same 20 or so items of clothing over and over. Notebooks are also a problem.  Memorabilia is easier to declutter than I thou...

1000 Item Day 57 - Back from Ironman

Hello! The past two weeks were too crazy to do more than just throw the occasional item in the "get rid of" pile. Not only was I getting ready for Ironman, I had two huge projects thrown on my plate at work,  I had to take a day trip to Boston, AND I had to spend a weekend sherpa-ing my boyfriend through a race of his own. Phew! So glad I'm going on vacation in a couple weeks - I need it! Anyway, back to the grind, at least until I leave for Seattle. This is so much a "haul from today" as catching up on stuff I piled up. This week I'm hoping to get back into the groove with decluttering and create that capsule wardrobe. I'm Back! And Day One of the 1000 Item Challenge

Sorry for the disappearance - shortly after starting this blog I unexpectedly lost my job (literally the day after my last post). Anyway, I'm back with a really tough (in a totally awesome way, of course) challenge I found on Youtube - Getting rid of 1,000 things. Yikes! So, here's the video I saw: I admittedly didn't love the actual video (a quick search shows there are others on the 1,000 item challenge) , but the challenge fascinated me. It's hard to imagine I even OWN 1,000 things, especially after clearing out literally BAGS of stuff (especially clothes and books), but I know I can do it. So, here's Day One: We've got: 5 cleaning cloths, 1 eyeglass case 1 box of expired laxative (veggies FTW!) 1 ancient bottle of sunscreen 1 pair of socks that just developed a hole (sad because I freaking LOVE my fuzzy socks) Participant trophy from a race we ended up placing in and getting one of the huge awards for (which I'm keeping). 1 glass I...
