1000 Item Challenge Day 34

Started off having trouble finding things, but ended up with another good haul.

Haul #1:

  • Paper from elementary school. (On the ozone layer - I got an A!)
  • Sealed college transcript. (I had TWO despite the fact that I'm almost 40 and probably will never need one in my life again. I still held on to the other anyone anyways. Ahem.)
  • 2 Photos
  • 2 Nails (And I think that really is the end of the extra hardware.)
  • VHS tape of I'm not sure what - maybe my high school Tae Kwon Do belt tests?
  • Marjaram - Yet another spice I bought for like one recipe and never use.
  • Magazine
  • Hello Kitty paper wrap - super cut but not big enough to actually wrap anything in.
Haul #2:

  • Telephone cord
  • CD
  • 3 Photos
  • Playbill
  • Notepad
  • Magazine
  • 3 Aerodrink bands

1000 Item Challenge Day 69

Really cleared out some photos today. It's so funny - I have duplicates, ones that I can't even identify where they were taken, 12 photos of the same hour-long event, etc. (And no, I don't ever look at these.) I'll fully KonMari them in the future, but for now consolidating and thinning out the herd is really helping (and will make the Big Purge that much easier). 3 T-shirts (Yes, I am continuing to make the hard decisions in thinning out my wardrobe.) Clothes hanger (I don't even use pant hangers of this type anymore.) Folder ...And the big one - 9 photos. Today's Total: 14 items Overall Total: 866 items. Yikes - gonna have to hustle hard to find 134 more items in the next week to meet that September deadline!

50 Item Summer Wardrobe

In an earlier entry I mentioned that I wanted to try a capsule wardrobe and see how it went. I did one this winter that went well in terms of having enough clothing to wear but I hated it because it was all grey and black. (I chose all my grey and black clothes because it was both the perfect percentage of clothing and easily interchangeable.) I decided to try again with a still-muted wardrobe, but a bit more color than before. I feel the pinks, blues, and purples will be a nice compromise that gives me a little color and pop. So I decided to go with 50 items. This includes pajamas, shirts (sweatshirts through tank tops, and yes you need sweatshirts in the summer here - it can get down to the low 40s at night), pants, capris (including my beloved yoga pants),shorts, skirts, and dresses. It does not include shoes, underclothes, socks, jackets or accessories. I know that capsule wardrobes can be half that, but it seemed like a good place to start. So here's the breakdown: ...

Introduction, a.k.a. Who am I and what is this?

Hey there! I'm Veronica! I currently live in New York and am preparing to move to Colorado at the end of the year. Instead of just throwing everything into boxes without thinking, I'm going to take the next ten months to do some extreme decluttering until I can fit all of my possessions into my carry-on and backpack, hence one girl two suitcases (with a nod to the infamous namesake). Some rules: I will also have a laptop case for my two (personal and work) laptops to fit into together and a purse. These will not count towards the two bags. I will not be counting shared household items such as linens, dishes and other kitchenware, holiday decorations, etc. These categories will still be minimized and decluttered as part of the process. My bike and related accessories (helmet, shoes, trainer/turbo, etc.) also will not be included (but once again, minimized.) Bike clothes WILL be included. My two heirloom items - my great-grandmother's rocking chair and my grandfath...
